NDA Before School Program (BSP)

All policies contained in the Academy of Notre Dame's Student Handbooks for grades Pre-K 3 - 8 apply to the Before School Program (BSP). Please read the handbook carefully, as revisions are made each year. The Academy of Notre Dame reserves the right to create new policies and modify if necessary. If such a situation arises, parents/guardians will be notified of the detailed policy before it takes effect. Parents who fail to support the policies of the Academy of Notre Dame may be asked to withdraw their child(ren) from the Before School Program.

Application & Sign-Up

Applications for the Before School Program may be accessed and completed online in the NDA Parent Portal. Please log into your account to register for Before School care.  Before School care is only available for students in Grades Pre-K 3 - Grade 8.  Students attending NDA’s Upper School (grades 9-12) may not arrive at school before 7:00 AM.

An application must be completed every year for each child.

Before School Requirements

  • Completed Application
  • Emergency Form on file with the school
  • Medical Release Form on file with the school

NOTE:  Parents/guardians must sign up 48 hours in advance of the day of required service.  For safety reasons, NDA can NOT allow for emergency drop in service.  Children who are not registered may not enter the building before 7:15 AM.

Students who are absent from school on a day for which they are signed up to attend BSP will not receive a refund or credit for that day’s payment.

Please email [email protected] to communicate directly with the program coordinator on any BSP-related matters.

All NDA policies, rules, and expectations for student conduct pertain to the BSP program as well.

Crisis Plan

All Before School Staff are aware of the procedures contained in the Academy’s Crisis Intervention Plan and are prepared to keep your children safe in the event of an emergency event.

Hours of Operation

The Before School Program is open from 6:30 AM  – 7:15 AM any day that the school is open. The Before School Program is closed on snow days, delayed opening days, scheduled holidays, school vacation weeks, and other days when the school is not open.

Medical Emergencies/Medication

All Before School Staff are aware of the procedures for medical emergencies and are prepared to keep your children safe in the event of a medical emergency.

No medication is administered during the Before School Program. If a child requires an Epi-Pen or inhaler, one must be provided to the nurse’s office. If a student attending BSP requires emergency use of an Epi-Pen or inhaler and one has not been provided, a 9-1-1 call will be placed for emergency treatment.

Office Records

As the Before School Program utilizes the school database, parents/guardians are requested to notify the school office in writing of any change of address, custody, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, or emergency contact information.

Drop-Off Procedure

Parents/guardians are required to come into the building to drop off their child(ren) to BSP. Building access is via the green doors, to the right of the main staircase, at the front of the building. Parents/guardians, or persons approved in writing for student drop-off, must physically sign a student in with a staff member.

Monday through Friday:

6:30 AM - 7:15 AM

  • Students arrive at the large cafeteria and will be seated in their grade level area.
  • Students may work on homework, read or talk quietly with peers.
  • Students may bring a breakfast snack to eat while waiting for school to start. Items should be peanut and tree nut free.
  • Students may not leave the cafeteria except to use the facilities on the ground floor.
  • Students may not leave the cafeteria to visit lockers or cubbies.

The Before School Program is staffed daily. All faculty and staff who supervise BSP have undergone CPR and first aid training, background checks, fingerprinting and child abuse prevention training.

Weather Emergencies

If it becomes necessary to close the school because of weather conditions, an announcement will be made using the following communication channels:  WCVB-TV, all call, text message, NDA website home page, NDAFacebook and  Instagram. The Before School Program will also be closed if school closes due to inclement weather. We strive to make a decision by 5:30 AM so that families are notified by 6 AM.
