Summer Math & Reading Activities K - 5

Read at Home Bingo Challenge 

Students entering Grades 3 - 4 are encouraged to complete one of the book assignments below based on a book you read this summer. When complete, email the assignment to [email protected] and the book assignment will get forwarded to your child’s teacher at the beginning of the school year. In the email subject line please include your child's first and last name, grade, and the word, Reading.
 
Magic Tree House CoverStudents entering grade 5 must read Magic Tree House American Revolution (Fact Tracker) by Mary Pope Osborne and Natalie Pope Boyce and complete one of the book assignments below:
 

Students entering Grades 3-5, choose one of the following:

1. Create a new book jacket. Your book jacket should include:
  • a colored illustration
  • the title and the author
  • a 3-5 sentence review of the book
  • a summary of the story
 
2. Create a 3-slide Google Slides or PowerPoint presentation. Each slide should include 4 sentences.
  • Slide 1 - include the title and the author of the book. 
  • Slide 2 - describe your 2 favorite characters and why. 
  • Slide 3 - describe your favorite scene in the book.
Feel free to use clip art to dress up your presentation.

3. Create a timeline demonstrating the sequence of events in the story. Please include at least 7 events. Include one sentence and an illustration for each event.

Read everyday! Have your child read to themselves, a sibling, or a stuffed animal friend. Enjoying a book read aloud from an adult is also always encouraged! Sign up on Beanstack with the Tyngsboro Public Library to record your daily reading as part of their Summer Reading Challenge and get entered to win raffle prizes!
