NDA Dedicates New Rachel Anne Morrison '05 Science Lab

The Academy raised more than $500,000 from over 250 generous donors to make the state-of-the-art renovation possible. The dedication ceremony, held on September 27, brought together Rachel’s family, former classmates, teachers, board members, donors, and members of the community to honor her memory and celebrate the impact of science education at NDA.

Rachel Morrison, remembered for her vibrant spirit and love of discovery, was a standout science student who brought joy and curiosity to the classroom. Former Science Teacher Sue Turkovich said, “Rachel was passionate about science, and loved hands-on time in the lab doing what she referred to as “fun science”. She would be so pleased to know that we are continuing our commitment to STEAM by helping the next generation understand, appreciate, and care for the environment and scientific pursuits.”

The new science lab features state-of-the-art equipment, flexible learning spaces, and technology enhancements designed to inspire hands-on exploration. It represents the Academy’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in education—preparing students to become confident, compassionate leaders in a rapidly changing world.

“This new lab not only honors Rachel’s memory but also strengthens the foundation of our academic mission,” said Greg Palmer, Director of Institutional Advancement. “We are deeply grateful to the donors whose generosity made this transformation possible. Their gifts ensure that Rachel’s legacy of curiosity and kindness will live on in every student who walks through these doors.”
