Upper School Athletic Program
Whether you are a seasoned athlete, want to try a new sport, or are looking for additional fitness opportunities, the Academy’s Athletic Program offers you many opportunities. Our 200+ acre campus provides us with impressive fields and facilities for athletics. The Academy offers nine different teams, some with both varsity and junior varsity programs. The coaching staff here at the Academy can help you develop your athletic skills and guide you in life-long fitness. Participation in the Upper School athletic program is open to all students in grades 9-12 and both experienced and non-experienced students are welcome. Participation in the athletic program is about 50% of the Upper School population.
The Academy’s Athletic Program strives to offer a range of both team and individual sports, several of which have a no-cut policy. These are broken up into three seasons: fall, winter and spring. There are nine varsity level teams and four junior varsity teams; Cross Country (no cut), Varsity & JV Soccer (no cut), Swimming & Diving (no cut), Varsity & JV Volleyball, Varsity & JV Basketball, Indoor Track (no cut), Varsity & JV Softball (no cut), Tennis, and Track & Field (no cut).
Athletic Department Philosophy
In harmony with the Academy’s mission “to educate the whole person,” the athletic program serves as an integral part of our educational values. The Academy’s philosophy to offer a well-rounded education can also be realized through athletic involvement. Upper School athletics are an extension of the classroom. Many valuable life-long lessons can be gained through participation in athletics. Student-athletes have the opportunity to experience leadership roles, teamwork, commitment and responsibility. Participation in athletics helps students develop time management and organizational skills, self-discipline, goal setting, accountability and confidence. Athletics at the Academy promotes sportsmanship and respect for others among athletes, coaches, parents and spectators.
The Academy’s Athletic Program is a member in good standing of the (MIAA) Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, the (CAC) Commonwealth Athletic Conference and the (MVC) Merrimack Valley Conference (Swimming & Diving, Indoor Track and Tennis only). The Academy abides by all of the rules set forth by the state association and the conference.
