Lower School at the Academy of Notre Dame Participates in Readathon
Posted October 31, 2018
There was a fairytale ending for those who worked hard to achieve their reading goals during the Academy of Notre Dame's Lower School Readathon to support the Library Learning Commons (LLC).
Academy students in grades Pre-K through 8 logged thousands of minutes during the ten day readathon from October 5 to October 14. During this period of time, students contracted with sponsors who agreed to contribute money based on how many minutes they read, or for students in Pre-K and K1, how many minutes someone read to them. Students logged their reading time to track their minutes.
Half of the money that students collected went directly back to them in the form of gift vouchers, redeemable at the Scholastic Book Fair being held October 29 – November 2. The hard work demonstrated by the students dedication to reading earned them prizes, such as gift certificates to the book fair, dress down days and homework passes. The other half of the money, a total of $3,000, benefitted the LLC.
Donna Acquaviva and her fourth grade students recorded the highest number of reading minutes during the 10-day readathon. Of the class, Natania Fernandez of Dracut achieved the special distinction of being the top reader in the entire school with the highest number of minutes recorded school-wide.
Another award winning team was Barbara Beauchesne’s first grade class for their class participation.
Cathy Stangroom's second grade students did a phenomenal job of fundraising as a class, together they brought in a pledge amount totaling $1,605. Special recognition goes to Benny Martignetti of Chelmsford, who received the top fundraising award for the second year in a row.
The following students received recognition for recording the highest number of reading minutes in their grade:
