At the Academy, science is a creative, hands-on, lab-centered program that has engaged and encouraged nearly 50% of Academy graduates over the past five years to pursue science-related majors in college. Many students double-up on science classes, with some taking as many as seven science courses over four years of high school, even though only three years are required.

The Academy has three fully-equipped labs that use cutting-edge technology, including interactive Star Boards, Pasco Wireless Probeware for data collection, Microsoft Excel analysis and report-generating programs, and Inspiration mind-mapping software.

At the Academy, you won’t just learn about science, you will DO science yourself.

See Course Description Booklet for full course descriptions and the Virtual High School for elective options.

Why the Academy begins science study with Physical Science:

The Physical Science course prepares you for all other levels of high school science. You will build the Chemistry background needed for modern-day biology, while being introduced to the process of lab-intensive science study. You will learn to pose questions, make hypotheses, design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data, and finally to draw conclusions supported by your data. In addition, you will be introduced to the basic concepts of physics to demystify the subject and encourage you to take physics as an upperclassman. The foundation year in physical science allows us to fulfill the "do science" rather than just "learn about science" philosophy.

A Teacher's View

"Albert Eistein once said, 'To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science.' As a faculty we strive to ignite the flame of curiosity and imagination in our students that will serve them well in all aspects of life.
