In Coffeehouse, students write and recite their own poetry every cycle. The class is given a topic for inspiration and an element to incorporate into her poems. Each 'block' day, the class enjoys a coffeehouse atmosphere by listening to original poetry with a cup of hot coffee!
Bulletin Board
Coffeehouse is a project-based activity that students create after completing a particular genre or topic in literature. When "Coffeehouse Poetry" is not offered as a course, I implement this concept into mini-projects to enrich the students' literary experiences.

Past Projects for Class
"Wall Poetry" -- completed.
Coffee Table Poetry Book -- in progress.... Students are continuing to write their poems. Meanwhile, they are creating a book of collected original poetry of their own. The book assembly entails Japanese book-binding lessons, original illustrations, and careful assembly of pages.
Future Projects: Earth Day T-Shirts: t-shirts displaying original poetry about caring for our planet. Beach Totes: canvas bags that display poetry encouraging recycling.
