Beta Club

The Academy of Notre Dame has its own chapter of the Junior National Beta Club for students in grades 7 and 8. The National Beta Club is the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. National Beta is committed to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding and nurturing worthy character, fostering leadership skills and encouraging service to others.

Requirements for Membership

To become a member of Beta Club students must meet the requirements of the National Beta Club. Students must present worthy, moral and ethical character, exemplary achievement, and commendable attitude. Additionally, the Academy requires that students have and maintain a 90 or above average in grades 7 and 8 and complete 20 hours of community service on a project of personal choice to be eligible for induction into the club.

Examples of volunteer locations include local animal shelters, food banks, or children’s toy donation centers. Returning club members are expected to participate in community service projects throughout the year, such as volunteering in younger grades or assisting classroom teachers.

The Beta Club also coordinated a large school food drive, in which over 1,700 pounds of food was donated to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank and a toiletries drive for the Lowell Boys and Girls Club, in which over 1,000 items were collected. The club is organized by elected 8th grade officers and a faculty advisor.
