What It's Like Being an Academy Student
By Katherine Tarantino, Class of 2018
Imagine getting ready for school each morning without stressing about what to wear, who you are going to try to impress, or how you look. Academy students enjoy daily no-stress fashion during school days allowing students to save time and feel confident in their environment. Because of the supportive and “no drama” environment, it is easy to build close, long lasting friendships with your peers in all grades.
Most of our students take up multiple leadership positions because our leadership opportunities are endless. If you enjoy leadership, you will feel empowered to join or create clubs and activities, organize events and take-charge as a class leader, student council representative, club president, and a committee member. Academy teachers support student leaders from the sidelines, while letting girls take charge. You could help organize the Fall Ball, Sophomore Semi or Junior-Senior Prom, a charitable fundraiser or more. With the support of their peers and teachers, students quickly develop important leadership skills and confidence and other important life skills to take with them to college. Learn more about our Leadership Opportunities.
If you are an athlete, you’ll enjoy camaraderie with other athletes who share your commitment to soccer, volleyball, track (three seasons), softball, tennis, basketball, or swimming/diving. You may be on one of the many teams who compete in post-season play-offs and snag state-level recognition. You can also try a new sport. Learn more about the Athletic Program.
If you are a dancer, you can join the NDANCE Team and perform at the pep rally, talent show, International Festival, and local competitions. Do you enjoy discussing international policy? Then join the Model UN club where you can discuss current issues and meet students from other schools. We have more than 30 clubs to get involved with. Learn more about Student Life.
As a student, you will appreciate the focused, but relaxed, classroom environment, with close student-teacher relationships. You will appreciate getting support and encouragement from caring, committed faculty, who are devoted to helping students before, during and after school, with the opportunity to email questions to teachers at any time. Academy teachers are passionately committed to helping each student achieve her personal best. You will be well-prepared for the college of your choice after four years at the Academy. What are your questions? Contact the Admissions Office, and they will help you connect with a student or teacher who can answer your questions. Come see the Academy for yourself: Take a look during an Open House day, and/or join a host student for a morning of classes and lunch for a Shadow Day.
